Exidy Collex'n Instructions

Exidy Collex'n Instructions

1. Remove the board from the cab and take it to a clean, well lit area.
2. Disconnect one end of the connecting ribbon cable. Seperate the audio board from the main board.
3. You can remove all of the bank roms, see pic for details. One of these is an nvram you can remove it too. It's actually not necessary to remove any roms on the main board, but it's a very good idea.
4. Remove the cpu from the main board.
5. Remove all roms on the audio board. This is very important as there will be a bus conflict if you do not. There are 2 rows of eproms 1k-1t and 2k-2t as well as a single program rom at location 1H.
6. Install the cpu removed earlier in the larger multi exidy board maintaining the orientation. Plug the multi exidy board into the main board.
7. Very carefully install the smaller multi exidy satellite board in the audio board. It attaches to socket 1h,1k,2k. There are a lot of pins so make sure you don't bend any over. It will only install one way.
8. There are 3 wires to attach the satellite board to the audio board. They go to IC 3L pins 1,3,2. I tin the leads of the legs of the IC and the wires to make it easier. see pic for details of where.
9. After installing the multi exidy you need to tell it what kind of board you have. Do this by setting the dips on the main mulit board. Despite how the board is marked the dips are numbered from the outside edge in starting with 1.
DIPSWITCH 1 2 3
crossbow off off on
cheyenne on off on
combat/C22 on on on
crackshot on on off
chiller on on off
clay Pigeon on on off
Hit 'n miss on on off *may need board mod as well
whodunnit on on off
showdown on on off

It's possible to mix and match sound boards and audio boards by setting the appropriate dips. Use Sw 1 settings for the Main CPU board you have and Sw 2 & 3 for the Audio board you have. It's not critical to get the dips correct the first time, if you get the dips wrong you will be prompted when you turn on the machine to fix a specific switch.
10. The flying wire from the main multi board is for the pause switch. Connecting this wire to ground through a switch will enable you to pause and return to the main menu.
11. Install the board in the cab and start the game. You should see the splash screen and hear the scream.

User Instructions

Upon installing the multi exidy and booting you should get to a menu of available games with a box around the first entry. You can use the start button to advance the selection box and use the trigger to select a game to play.

If you have installed the pause button you may use it to pause the game. The screen colors will shift to indicate this. Pressing start will return you to the game, pulling the trigger will return you to the main menu. If the pause button is not installed you will need to turn off the machine to get back to the main menu.

User Setup

To add or remove games from the menu turn all 8 of the audio board dipswitches on and boot. This will go to the game selection menu. Games in green are listed in the main menu, games in red are not. Note there may be games listed that are not fully supported with roms. (eg showdown, top secret, hit n miss 2.0) When you are done turn off the machine and reset the dipswitches. If you select only one game the main menu will be disabled and that game will always be selected. The pause button will still work, but the trigger will reboot the machine instead of turning on the menu.
